About Ms. Rathjen...
Welcome to 7 Green Science! I am looking forward to a GREAT year. This is my eleventh year in Lindbergh and I am excited to be here at Sperreng. I came to St. Louis ten years ago after teaching in Brentwood, TN (Nashville area) for 8 years, where I was also an adjunct professor for several years at Belmont University in Nashville. I am originally from Southern Illinois, and I received my bachelors and masters degrees from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I earned my Ed. S. in Educational Leadership from Webster University in 2012. I was named Sperreng Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2014, and won the Loeb Prize for Excellence in Teaching Science and Math in May of 2015. I believe that all students should experience science in order to learn. That means we will be DOING a lot of science, not just talking about it!
My husband and I have two daughters, one son, two dogs, and one cat. I love coffee with caramel creamer and occasionally a Dr. Pepper. I have attended three of the Middle School Science Field Trips - Teton Science School (2012), Florida (2013), and Appalachian Adventure (2014). I love Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks and I just got back from spending time in Rocky Mountains in Colorado. It was amazing!
